Jungles of the North - Pt.1

A series of five short films shot entirely on an iPhone6S Plus. Wildlife Filming is for everyone!

On my first trip to Okinawa from my then base of Yokohama I had two things on my mind, Jungles and wildlife filming. I'd been asked to shoot a series of five short wildlife videos using just an iPhone6S Plus fitted with a Moondog Labs 1.33x anamorphic adapter lens. This allowed me to get an extremely letterboxed aspect ratio thus transporting the aspect ratio towards that of footage acquired by more cinematic cameras. Using just the phone I also used on a daily basis for communication with my family as well as all the regular things we do with our smart devices I had species and environments in mind for each of the films.

In this first short I went in search of one of the regions more elusive of critters, the Black Breasted Leaf Turtle. Endemic and endangered I was beginning to lose hope of finding them when in one day, well into the allotted time for this film, I encountered three different individuals. Incredibly shy by nature they done their best to avoid the camera but with perseverance I was able to get the footage I was after to tell their very short story.
