A Chance Meeting
A Chance Meeting
Off Zamami Island in the Keramas, I found myself waist-deep in water so clear it felt unreal, as if I were standing in liquid glass. A green sea turtle glided into the shallows, each movement slow and deliberate, as though it were completely unbothered by my presence. I framed the scene through the vast curve of the Aquatech PD16 dome port, balancing the turquoise clarity below with the lush island and drifting clouds above. In that moment, the image became a bridge between two worlds—the calm, sunlit surface and the quiet, weightless life beneath.
Technically, the shot was made possible with a Canon EOS 5DSr paired with a Laowa 12mm f/2.8 lens inside the Aquatech surf housing. The immense dome allowed for a seamless split-water composition, its curve exaggerating the turtle’s reach and pulling the viewer into the crystalline shallows. What I love about this photograph is the harmony of contrasts: the softness of the clouds against the geometric lines of the turtle’s flipper, the weight of the land against the lightness of the sea. It is both a technical exercise in precision and, at the same time, a meditation on stillness, a fleeting chance to stand poised between two worlds.
