At Cape Zampa, I trained a long telephoto lens on a massive typhoon-driven wave, catching it at the very moment it curled over in a dramatic arc before crashing onto the jagged shoreline. The lens let me pull the viewer directly into the raw force of the ocean, highlighting every detail of spray and motion within the maelstrom. The greatest challenge here wasn’t the wave itself, but the constant battle against sea spray, as saltwater and cameras are a combination best avoided. With careful shielding and quick shooting, I managed to capture the sheer energy and destructive beauty of Okinawa’s coastline in the grip of a storm.
