Photography Specifics

Photography Specifics

From Macro to Landscape, Long Exposure, Timelapse or Off Camera Flash. I teach a wide selection of photographic genres and techniques.

DSLR Style Camera

To get the most from the majority of the workshops I teach you need to have a camera that will allow manual manipulation of the ISO, Shutter Speed and Aperture

Sturdy Tripod

For the majority of photographic genres the requirement for stability is a must. To this end a good quality tripod is as important as the camera itself.

Photographic Minded

Unless otherwise indicated attendees of these workshops need to have a basic understanding of the photographic process to get the most from it.

Photographic Workshops
As you will or have seen, Okinawa offers an incredible diversity of imaging potential. Wildlife, Landscape, Architecture, Macro, Product, Street, Fashion and Beauty are all genres readily catered to by the myriad of photographers and photographic services on the island.

Many family members of serving Military also get into the art of photography given that it's an incredible way to enjoy and get the most out of a destination during active postings. At the outset photography can seem daunting. This is why I offer a full range of Photographic Workshops so as to cover as many of the more popular imaging genres as possible. For example my 'Photography Bootcamp' has been created as a first step learning process of those new to photography in order for them to get a grounding in the basics of the art form. As the saying goes, "It's better to walk before you can run".

From there I offer a wide range of photographic workshops on subjects in which I have proven prowess and abilities. From Macro Photography to Landscape and Long Exposure imaging. From Time-lapse to Wildlife and specific techniques relative to off camera lighting and working with light in general.

What Do Attendees Need To Bring?
In order to get the full benefit from these workshop it would be favorable if those attending have the following equipment:
  • A DSLR style camera that allows manual manipulation of the Aperture, ISO and Shutter Speed.
  • A good and trusty tripod. Stability is king in photography
  • In all workshops other than the Photography Bootcamp' a basic understanding of the photographic process is required
  • Flash options when required - Flash related photographic genres such as Macro and working with Models
  • Required ND Filters if attending a Landscape or Long Exposure Workshop
Course Schedule
Most of these introductory workshops take place over a five hour period with a short break for lunch. Five hours of Photography! Seems like a long time right? Well you'll be surprised at how time flies. Whilst the majority of your time will be spent in discourse about the photographic process there will also be a large chunk of the day dedicated to taking imagery to reinforce the points covered during the discussions.
It may seem like a lot to take in initially but once the fundamental groundwork is done the learning process becomes increasingly fluid. During the practical segment of the day I will be right there with you to deal with any further questions you may have and to help you get the most from your practical application of the techniques taught.
Workshop Price: US$125pp
Attendee Capacity
All workshops as dictated by the current global situation with the Pandemic take place in an exterior location. This tends to be the Toguchi Beach area given the proximity to which I am based from that spot. Workshops accommodate a maximum attendee number of eight photographers which as a group size is just about right in order for everyone to have their concerns addressed and for me to give a good amount of per student time in the case that points need addressing on a one to one basis.
Attendance is on a strictly first come first served basis, reservations are secured with a US$75 deposit via PayPal and the balance of US$50 paid in cash on the morning of the workshop. If folks are happy to pay in full at their time of booking that is also welcomed.
Inclement Weather
As we all know we get a bit of rain here in Okinawa! If there is rain though we simply switch to a rescheduled date agreed upon by the workshop attendees.
