One of the most iconic of all marine creatures is the Sea Turtle. Here in Okinawa we are fortunate enough to have temperate seas where Sea Turtle encounters are a very common occurrence. Nowhere is as aesthetically pleasing as the stunningly clear waters of the Kerama Islands in the closer regions to the main island. Further afield one island of note where Turtles are easily approached, and put up with humans more so than in the Kerama Islands, is the island of Miyakojima.
In summer months there are numerous beaches where evidence of nesting turtles has taken place. Whenever these signs are spotted there are numerous conservation groups and entities that then take it on themselves to ensure the safety of the incubating nest sites.
