The use of ND filters allows for interesting effects when shooting rough seas. For this image I used a pretty strong ND1000 filter, one that reduces by a factor of ten the amount of light entering the camera. In turn this means if I wish to retain both the desired aperture and ISO sensitivity settings then I would have to adjust the length of the shutter speed in order to attain correct exposure. In this case the exposure was close to five minutes. What was a relatively rough setting is transformed into a scene of apparent tranquility. I always love the silky effect around the base of rocks in such imagery.
